Did you know that WordPress powers more than 17% of the web? This is figure is also on the rise, as the platform can be used to build simple websites, blogs, complex portals, enterprise websites and even applications. With 2015 well and truly underway, we wanted to share with you some of our favourite WordPress features that are sure to help you build successful websites.

  • Publishing Tools
WordPress now makes it easier than ever to manage your content. Create drafts, schedule publication and look at your post revisions – all at the click of a button. You can also make content public or private and secure them with a password.

  • Easy Theme
SystemWhilst WordPress comes with two default themes, there is also a directory (with literally thousands of themes) to browse – some free and some paid. Still not what you’re after? You also have the opportunity to upload your own theme.

  • Extend with Plugins
if the features WordPress has provided aren’t enough, there are also thousands of plugins to choose from. They can allow you to add complex galleries, social networking, forms, social media widgets, spam protection, calendars and forms.

  • Built-In Comments
When your website includes a blog, WordPress understands that you rely on comments to engage with your audience (and they with you). The comment tool provides you with everything need to encourage and moderate the discussion.

  • Application Framework
If you’re a developer, WordPress can help you to build an application for your clients! It provides a lot of features that your app requires, including: translations, user management, HTTP requests, databases, URL rerouting and much more.

  • Latest ScriptLibraries
Wordpress also comes fully equipped with the latest script libraries for developers to make use of, including jQuery, Plupload, Underscore.js and Backbone.js (to name a few). No longer will you have to scour the web, looking for the script you need.

  • Custom Content Types
Whilst Wordpress does come with default content types, all developers need to do is add a few lines of code and you have your own customised post types, taxonomies and metadata. This allows you to use the platform for so much more than before.

If you are interested in a new website or blog for 2015, we certainly recommend that you look deeper into what WordPress has to offer. All of these features (and more!) are sure to make the creation process run that much smoother and provide you with an attractive, user friendly site. We also recommend that developers look deeper into what the platform can offer them.
